Challenge

The American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Immunology (www.AAAAI.org), the leading medical specialty society representating allergists, immunologists, and related healthcare professionals, wished to deploy a full-featured content learning management system to automate and streamline the delivery of their live and enduring CME activities.  Key requirements included:

• Integration with the AAAAI primary Website
• Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication with iMIS association management system (AMS)
• Migration of learner demographic and CME transcript data from third party systems
• Support for live and enduring CME activities
• Performance Improvement CME activity authoring
• 24/7 PARS reporting
• Importing external credits of users
• Mapping credit records in iMIS with the in-house LMS transcripts
• Support for external educational partners.

Solution

Working with the AAAAI Office of Continuing Medical Education, we implemented our open source, ACCME PARS-compliant EthosCE Learning Management System. The AAAAI Education Center Website was built to match the "look and feel" of the AAAAI primary website to enhance the user experience. The Single Sign On integration is a critical feature for AAAAI to streamline user workflows and preserve the data integrity of the iMIS system. The flexible, feature rich course and e-commerce modules were customized after an in depth understanding of their business processes.  Another key accomplishment in our solution was to have the EthosCE database act as a single repository for credits earned by learners from various third party education partners.  The migration engine merges the credits earned external and internal to the system making it easy for record keeping and reporting for authenticated users. The engine also provides associations with operational improvements by minimizing the effort for integrating the credit records for ACCME and other compliance purposes.
